In recent years, initiatives to clean the San Diego Bay have become entrapped in the bureaucratic system, which has done nothing more than bring discussion of what ought to be done suspending progress on the basis of insufficient funds. The San Diego Bay Advisory Committee for Ecological Assessment has a subcommittee, Health of the Bay, which gathers to discuss Bill 68 with members of San Diego Bay clubs. The bill proposes to clean up San Diego Bay by beseeching superior California courts for funds. From perspective, they seem to discuss new developments and strategies depending on their member’s qualifications and abilities. Members include, the San Diego Sierra Club, US Navy, SD Port and local fisheries. Their primary preoccupation is gathering all vital tools and networking with the right people to stay within budget. Their ecological assessments are also rather limited. This year they are presenting their case to the Sacramento court in July; current project include research on water quality, climate, and the general state of the bay and its species. |
